The Millet Stalk
A Grey Sky
But a blip on the radar scope. A brief shining meteorite destined to burn out and die, A Grey Sky appeared on the Cleveland musical horizon for a brief two year period. Fronted by singer/guitarist/writer/arranger John McGrail, the trio of McGrail, Jim Smagola (on bass) and Jack Opatrny (on drums) combined hard edged guitar, smokin' grooves and incisive lyrics with a lean muscular sound that set audiences on fire. In their brief existence they created a sound that was almost a precursor to grunge only with more intelligence, skill and variety than that now tired and worn out genre This release was recorded as the group was falling apart. With Opatrny going on vacation in Texas... disappearing mysteriously never to be seen again.
